From beginning to end. These posts are always vastly entertaining.

Maybe we learn more from what we do wrong than what actually comes out perfectly the first time.

You will try this again, right?Kaytehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04892296035070233639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109191265483301907.post-63840303505821363752008-08-14T16:28:00.000-05:002008-08-14T16:28:00.000-05:00oh my god. *deep breath*(And it did taste good! I think you learned a good lessons for all of us, to really taste the cheese before we add it to our dishes. I covet dishes off ebay as well. At least you'll have a smile on your face.

And good luck with your dish hunt. I completely understand. My future mother-in-law has been a tad nervous around me as I have been eyeballing a gorgeous heirloom set I stumbled upon that she never uses.Jessica Eiden Smedleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08608380979670558610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109191265483301907.post-1488808083152866432008-08-14T00:31:00.000-05:002008-08-14T00:31:00.000-05:00I'm not a fan of Gruyere either (which I used for ...I'm not a fan of Gruyere either (which I used for my first French Onion Soup post), and sprinkled some Fontina and Parm on top this time. It's funny to go from the consomme that you found needed so much salt to this one! I hope the split pea meets your expectations, but I'm a little worried about it myself! My sister said I could make that when I get back to Ottawa!!Sharihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05365909194529275581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109191265483301907.post-86993067600360213762008-08-13T22:11:00.000-05:002008-08-13T22:11:00.000-05:00Oh, I am sorry your soup did not turn out. I am a dish fanatic.
You must have had a very salty Gruyere, it is usually a bit like Parmesan but milder and earthier.
Good thing you had your wine to console yourself. Perhaps you could put in a cellar!NKPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04963976997563464573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109191265483301907.post-39605302406734866632008-08-13T21:50:00.000-05:002008-08-13T21:50:00.000-05:00Oh Shelley...don't despair! I'm sorry you had a brine instead of soup...but your post was precious!

I, too, have gotten extremely "presentation" conscious. Not that I'm not fairly often...especially if I do a catering gig. I have all kinds of odds and ends of white, black and clear serving dishes. However...I thought I'd add some color recently, and purchased a lovely ceramic platter on eBay. Fortunately, it was insured, because it arrived shattered. Not merely broken...virtually pulverized. It arrived in a bubble-envelope. Even the envelope was beaten up. And no where, not even in fine print was the word "fragile." She had another, so we tried again. This time it arrived in a box...a crushed box. One entire corder was crushed. And again...even after my entreaties...no where was it marked fragile. Enough tries there. Last week, my prized soup tureen...ceramic with cute veggies on the lid...finally arrived...shattered. I had begged for insurance, which we're both grateful for now...but no where on the box did the word "fragile" appear. So...today, when a fairly banged up and dented box arrived, and we discovered it was hubster's new digital camera...we held our collective breath until we were sure the camera survived. Would you believe, not even that was marked fragile??

We're just on the down-side of various luck aspects right now. It could probably be worse...but I'm not up for tempting Fate a lot more right now!!

On to split pea soup!!
GlennisUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11114666555565258508noreply@blogger.com
