My internet friend Maria...Well, about the boobs...

My internet friend Maria is a New Orleans native (went to a Catholic girls' school right down the street from the school where Peyton Manning went -- she knew him as an acquaintance) and she says that there are two kinds of Mardi Gras parties.

The first kind is the traditional party/parade, oriented toward families and children. That kind of festivity is more religious in nature, although they're apparently lots of fun, with bunches of candy tossed into the crowds and stuff like that.

The second kind is the crazy, drunken brawl with the girls who show their boobs in exchange for those strings of brightly-colored plastic beads. Lots of drinking, sex and general mayhem; no nod at all to the religious family celebration that Mardi Gras is SUPPOSED to be.Shelleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13585609641158766024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109191265483301907.post-45011037626108105282011-01-11T07:09:40.412-05:002011-01-11T07:09:40.412-05:00Okay that whole boob thing is a new one on me...th...Okay that whole boob thing is a new one on me...thanks for the advice, I will heed it religiously should I ever come across a party where that little tradition is in play. This easy version sounds like a whole lot more doable than the King Cake I made last year. Might have to do this one this year for a change of pace. Agreed on the icing totally, what's not to love about a ton of buttercream upon something not chocolate for a change??? The whole idea of Mardi Gras for instance is total abandonment in the food realm, right? (And apparently in the dressing for success realm.) it was great reading the whole story of it all...nice that you put that altogether like this, thanks!Kaytehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04892296035070233639noreply@blogger.com
