Winter storm

This is the day when that
massive winter storm pounded two-thirds of the country, blanketing vast areas in snow with a wind strong enough to blow your earmuffs to kingdom come.

We didn't get a lot of snow here in central Indiana. There is some, and it was so pretty coming down outside around lunch time; that is, when it wasn't blowing absolutely horizontal. I looked out once and was a bit startled when the visibility was about four inches beyond the pane of glass and felt so glad that I didn't have to be out there driving in it, offering up a prayer for everyone who did.

It couldn't be more cozy inside right now: sauce ragù simmering on the stove, the big stockpot filled with water heating for the pasta, garlic toast getting all goldeny-crisp in the oven....it is a beautiful night to be indoors with the Christmas tree lights twinkling away and the lamps glowing and the candles on the Advent wreath spreading a pool of cheerful light on the dining room tabletop while the wind howls around the corners of the house outside.

It's the kind of night that makes you give extra thought to all those who are cold, hungry and comfortless. Let's say a prayer for them now and add an extra word of thanks for all the blessings we so often take for granted.

Your description made me want to be in your house. :)

I'm praying. I've been thinking a lot about this lately, too. God Bless the people who run the shelters!
